There is confidence to be built in the client-supplier relationship. This is achieved by building a "common ground" upon which every business related communication exchange can refer to. This is where Communication and Information Technology come at hand. The "common ground" is created by making available all possible documents related to the existing transaction so that both parts can refer to this shared knowledge to discuss related issues or take specific action. Cultural divide may be inevitable, but the existence of a common data source constrains the communication process into a detailed shared "map" where errors or mishaps are quite less likely to occur and in the unlikely event much easier to repair. We stress that a cultural cleavage cannot be overcome even by a cleverly designed information system, so the downsized aim is to be aware of the potential flaws in the communication process deriving from cultural issues and to embody in the system principles that may improve its ability to minimize the possibility of errors resulting from the lack of a shared cultural context. Providing an accessible and detailed set of information to which each counterpart can refer to, contributes to the creation of a common frame of reference needed to reduce the risk of failures in communication. |
